All brands of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and beer sold through Bevco outlets in Kerala will cost more from Friday as the proposed hike has come into effect.

The existing prices of IMFL will go up by around five per cent. The move comes as an attempt to make up the loss incurred due to the closing of retail liquor outlets and beer parlours along national highways following a Supreme Court order.

The price of common and popular brands will go up from Rs 10 to Rs 40, while premium brands will now cost Rs 30 to Rs 80 more. Meanwhile, the price of various brands of beer will be increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20.

Around 60 liquor shops in the state are set to reopen after the ruling LDF government waived off the requirement for no-objection certificates for beer parlours and liquor outlets from local bodies.
