Kozhikode: CPM leader among 6 arrested for assaulting pregnant woman

Synopsis

The six were arrested for assaulting Josna Sibi, 28, who was four months pregnant at Kodenchery in Kozhikode on January 28. A scuffle had broken out between her husband and neighbours over a boundary dispute, during which the CPM leader kicked Sibi on her stomach. A profusely bleeding Sibi was rushed to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, where she had to undergo an abortion. 

The police on Thursday arrested six people, including a CPM leader, in connection with the assault on a pregnant woman in Kozhikode, forcing her to undergo an abortion. 

The six were arrested for assaulting Josna Sibi, 28, who was four months pregnant at Kodenchery in the district on January 28.

A scuffle had broken out between her husband and neighbours over a boundary dispute, during which Thambi, a CPM branch secretary of Velamcode, kicked Sibi on her stomach, the police said.

A profusely bleeding Sibi was rushed to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, where she had to undergo an abortion. A complaint was lodged by her in this connection on February 2.

While one person was arrested on February 8, the others were apprehended on Thursday following an investigation. The accused were arrested on charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal trespass and wrongful restraint.
