‘I am not waiting anymore': Underage groom creates ruckus at registrar’s office

Synopsis

The couple were told they cannot register the marriage as the groom had not turned 21 The boy refused to leave the office and insisted he had to marry the girl that day itself

The boy from Konni and the girl from Koothrappally arrived at the sub registrar’s office in Karukachal on Tuesday morning and applied to get their marriage registered, according to a Manorama report.

The bride was 18 and eligible but after going through the documents an official pointed out that the boy was a month short of turning 21. The couple were then told that they cannot register the marriage as the groom had not crossed the permissible age to marry.

However, the boy refused to leave the office and insisted he had to marry the girl that day itself. The sub registrar and other officers asked the couple to return a month later after the boy turned 21 but he paid no heed to the legalities and created a ruckus at the office.

Eventually the boy’s relatives arrived and pacified him, before taking him home.
