Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) started the trial run from Palarivattom to Maharaja's College - the second stretch of the metro - on Friday.
KMRL authorities informed that the target is to begin operations along the route by the third week of September.
KMRL is trying to put the finishing touches to the works at all stations in the route by August. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct inspection of the route after the construction work is over.

The distance between Palarivattom and Maharaja's College is around five kilometres. The route presents five new stations - Nehru Stadium, Kaloor, Town Hall, Madhava Pharmacy and Maharaja's College - connecting the metro rail to busy MG Road.
When the Palarivattom-Maharaja's stretch become operational, the Kochi Metro will extend to a distance of 18 kilometres, covering 16 stations.
The initial Aluva-Palarivattom stretch of the Kochi Metro was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 17, and the services began on June 19.
