Synopsis

Kochi Metro gave employment to 23 transgender persons KMRL will also arrange permanent residence for employees Transgender employees were afraid that they would lose job for lack of residence

In a historical move, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) had given employment to 23 transgender persons. Now the company is making plans to ensure permanent housing for these employees.

The decision was taken after Asianet News report on issues faced by transgender persons who got employment with Kochi Metro. They lacked permanent housing and were afraid of losing their jobs.

KMRL Managing Director Elias George took measures to ensure safe and permanent residence for employees. “We have contacted government agencies like Social Justice Department. We will make sure that they will get permanent residence. We have to take care of all their issues, or else this project won’t be a success,” George said.

A private person has approached KMRL and has offered to make the arrangement. “A well-wisher informed us that he could arrange housing for the employees at his apartment. We are looking into the matter,” he said.
