Kevin murder: Hartal in Kottayam, funeral to be held today

Synopsis

The murder of Kevin has pointed fingers at the inaction of the police who refused to file a complaint on victim Kevin's wife Neenu's request.

The Congress-led UDF and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kottayam district had called for a hartal on May 29 to protest against the 'honour killing' of 23-year-old Kevin P Joseph.

Kevin P Joseph, a Dalit Christian, was allegedly abducted and killed by a gang allegedly engaged by his wife's relatives. Kevin's body was found in a river on May 28.

Though it was hartal in Kottayam, a large number of people came out to pay their homage to Kevin.

Private buses kept off the roads, but KSRTC buses were running, autorickshaws were plying but shops, markets, and business establishments remained closed in many parts of the district.

The murder of Kevin has pointed fingers at the inaction of the police who refused to file a complaint on victim Kevin's wife Neenu's request.

It is said that Kevin was brutally beaten up and was murdered. Deep wounds were found on Kevin's body, and his eyes were also partially damaged.

It is said that police did not take any action despite the fact that three complaints of Kevin's missing were filed in the police station. Sadly, his body was found floating on a river on Monday. His wife Neena was hospitalised after hearing the shocking news. The funeral of Kevin is being held today (May 29).
