Kerala to hold special Assembly session over beef ban

Kerala government has decided to convene a special session of state Assembly to discuss on the ban imposed by Centre on cattle slaughter. The cabinet asked Governor P Sathasivam to hold the session on June 8. 

The decision for the day-long session was taken at the cabinet meeting on Friday. 

The opposition UDF, the traditional rival of ruling Front, had on Thursday said that they are ready to join hands with the LDF to fight the new law and condemned Centre's move as "nothing but an attempt to usurp the rights of the state government," IANS reports.

The special session aims to pass a resolution against Centre's new rule restricting cattle slaughter. However, the resolution would not be approved unanimously as the lone BJP legislator O Rajagopal is certain to oppose it. 

The ruling Front is determined to take up the issue to a new level, and the Chief Minister plans to convene a meeting of all Chief Ministers in the country.

He is also planning to take up the matter to the central leadership of the party and will visit Delhi on June 5. He will be in the national capital for three days from June 5 to 7 to attend CPM politburo meeting on June 6 and 7.
