The Kerala government has decided to raise the minimum age for consumption of liquor in the state from 21 to 23 years.
The state cabinet on Wednesday decided to bring in an ordinance in this regard and to amend related provisions in the Abkari Act.
The proposal was part of the election manifesto of the LDF and was incorporated in the state excise policy released earlier this year.
The cabinet has also given nod for a provision to punish those who sell liquor to under-age consumers.
