Kerala seeks more train, flights to clear Onam rush

The Chief Minister wrote centre seeking more flight and train service during Onam season Arranging more seats in flights will help bring down the tendency of hike in airfare The CM has requested to provide more flights and trains between August 27 and September 15

Kerala has requested the Centre to provide more flight and train services to the state to clear the rush of passengers during the coming Onam festival season. The move also aims to tackle the tendency of hiking airfare during the festive season. 

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in this regard. 

The Chief Minister asked the Centre to provide 15,000 additional seats to airlines operating from the Gulf regions to destinations in Kerala between August 27 and September 15. 

"Now the airlines charge Rs 50,000 to Gulf countries. The present fare can be brought down to Rs 30,000 if more services are allowed", Pinarayi said. 

In a letter to the Railway Minister, The Chief Minister requested an increase in the number of train services from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi to Kerala between August 27 and September 15.
