
The CPM-led Left government in Kerala has announced their liquor policy which drastically dilutes the ban imposed by UDF on alcohol sale in the state. The new policy not only allows three-star or fancier hotels to serve liquor but also toddy.
LDF announced the new policy terming its predecessors policy as a complete failure and ineffective. The new policy will come into effect on July 1.
Meanwhile, Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan has said that with the new policy government aims to bring down alcohol consumption in the state. However, it is not clear as to how the LDF government is planning to achieve this by allowing more bars to reopen.
