Kerala govt approves salary hike for ministers, MLAs

Synopsis

The salary reforms bill for the legislators will be introduced in the current session of the Assembly. The ministers' salary will be increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,300 and the MLAs from Rs 39,000 to Rs 62,000. The salary reforms bills was formulated on the basis of recommendations by the James Commission, appointed by the Assembly Speaker. 

Kerala government has decided to hike the salary of MLAs and ministers in the state.

The salary reforms bill for the legislators will be introduced in the current session of the Assembly. The ministers' salary will be increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,300 and the MLAs from Rs 39,000 to Rs 62,000.

The proposal, which got the Cabinet nod for the hike, was proposed by the parliamentary affairs department. The salary reforms bills was formulated on the basis of recommendations by the James Commission, appointed by the Assembly Speaker. 

However, the commission's proposal for a steep hike in the salary and perks was not accepted by the government. Though the commission had recommended a hike to Rs 1.37 lakh for ministers, the Cabinet fixed it as Rs 90,000.
