Heavy rains in Kerala claim 27 lives, state witnesses severe flood, landslide

Synopsis

Around10 people are suspected to be missing in the landslide in Thamarassery and rescue missions have taken off  to trace them.

Heavy rains have killed 27 people in Kerala. The southwest monsoon which also resulted in a landslide has taken three lives including a nine-year-old girl in Thamarassery.

Several districts of Kerala have witnessed avalanches and waterlogging. Districts like Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Wayanad have witnessed landslides. The collector has issued notices to evacuate the residents from these areas if necessary. The northern districts are facing heavy rains which have destroyed the crops and infrastructure. 

The warnings continue in Kerala as heavy rains are expected to lash the city for next two days.
