Happy Rajesh murder: Court acquits all 7 accused due to lack of evidence

The Thiruvananthapuram CBI special court has acquitted all the accused in the Happy Rajesh murder case, citing the lack of evidence. 

All the seven accused in the case - DySP Santosh Nair, Container Santhosh, Prakash alias Vettukuttan, Penty Edwin, Krishnakumar, Suryadas and Nithin - were set free by the court on Thursday.  

Rajesh, a gang leader, was found dead inside an auto rickshaw near the Government Victoria Hospital Kollam in April 2011. He was the prime accused in the attempt to murder against journalist VB Unnithan. Unnithan was attacked by a gang led by Rajesh and allegedly hired by Santosh Nair and Container Santhosh.

Santosh Nair had nursed a grudge against Unnithan for writing some news reports against him. Two weeks after the attack on Unnithan, the probe team found Rajesh dead. The CBI believe that Rajesh was murdered by Santosh Nair to eliminate any evidence of his involvement in the attempt to murder on Unnithan.

The CBI had submitted charge sheet listing the seven persons, including Santosh Nair, as the accused.
