A family, comprising a pregnant woman, her husband and a three-year-old son, was threatened and robbed by a gang of two on the Thrissur-Shornur highway on Monday.

The robbers approached the family on the pretext of offering help after they pulled over their car at Parlikkad near Thrissur to fix their vehicle's wiper, the police said. The duo then threatened them with an iron rod, looted their valuables including money, jewellery and mobile phone before fleeing on their two-wheeler.

"Two persons came on a motor bike and asked us what happened, and also offered to help us. Suddenly, one of them asked us to give them whatever valuables we had," PTI quoted Vinod, a native of Palakkad district, telling the TV channels.

His wife Rajalakshmi said that the robbers took away her chain, rings, ear rings, money and Vinod's mobile phone. A manhunt was on to nab the robbers, the police said adding night patrolling would be intensified on highways to prevent such crimes.
