Drunken father pushes 14-year-old girl to her death

A 14-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the well after her father threatened to kill her. The deceased is Haritha, a Class IX student of Kolathur Government High School, Kasargod.

On Thursday, Haridas, father of Haritha came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with family members. The girl then complained that she is not able to study because of these constant fights. 

Her comment angered Haridas who threatened her with a knife. Haritha was frightened, and to escape her father she ran and jumped into the well in the courtyard. 

The well was 50-ft-deep and by the time neighbours arrived the girl had already drowned. They could not save her as the was 30-ft deep. The fire and rescue personnel recovered the body by 9.30 at night. 

Neighbours said that Haridas used to come home drunk every day and pick up a fight with the family. 

Police registered a case for unnatural death.
