Document forgery: High Court restrains police from arresting Senkumar

The High Court has ordered the police not to serve summons to TP Senkumar till September 14 Senkumar had gone on leave from June 2016 to January 2017, after the LDF government removed him from the post of state police chief The police had registered a case against Senkumar for producing fake documents to draw full salary during an eight-month leave period

The Kerala High Court has restrained the police from arresting former state police chief TP Senkumar in a case relating to allegedly forging documents.

The HC has ordered the police not to serve summons to Senkumar till September 14. The court made the order while considering his petition demanding the withdrawal of the case against him. 

The police had registered a case against Senkumar for producing fake documents to draw full salary during an eight-month leave period.

Senkumar had gone on leave from June 2016 to January 2017, citing personal reasons, after the LDF government removed him from the post of state police chief and replaced him with Loknath Behera when it came to power in May 2016. The government had accepted nine applications from Senkumar during this period to avail half-paid leaves. 

In February, Senkumar gave a letter to the government to convert those leaves into commuted leaves. The police officer also submitted eight medical certificates issued by Government Ayurveda College Dr VK Ajith Kumar and a fitness certificate. 

However, AJ Sukarno the former councillor of Thiruvananthapuram corporation, filed a complaint against Senkumar alleging that the certificates were fake. The police then registered a case on the basis of a vigilance enquiry conducted under the initiative of the then chief secretary Nalini Netto.
