Kerala police chief Loknath Behara has directed the Kochi range IGP to probe the incident in which a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) of the Indian Navy crashed at Kochi.

The Inquiry has to be conducted in detail, taking all necessary assistance from the Armed forces and Intelligence agencies and covering the aspects of VVIP safety as well as public safety, a police press release said.

The Israeli made pilotless aircraft crashed during take off on a routine sortie just outside the Naval base at Kochi on Tuesday. There were no casualties. The crash was due to technical reasons and there was no damage to the runway, a defence spokesman said.

A defence release said a remotely piloted aircraft 'Searcher' on a routine surveillance mission crashed north of the naval airfield INS Garuda after take off at 10:25 AM.

It said there was no casualty or damage to property and that a Board of Inquiry has been constituted to investigate the cause of the accident.
