The police have arrested CPM leader Sameer Khan for allegedly abusing a woman sexually and blackmailing her with nude videos.

Sameer, a former CPM branch secretary who hails from Vizhinjam near Thiruvananthapuram, abused the woman and also extorted Rs 2 lakh and 23 sovereign of gold from her, according to the police.

The police booked the politician on a complaint filed by the woman. Sameer had allegedly recorded visuals of the woman taking a bath using a hidden camera and later abused her after blackmailing her with the visuals.

Sameer was produced before a court on Friday and remanded to judicial custody. The woman gave statement to the magistrate that Sameer blackmailed her several times and extorted Rs 2 lakh and 23 sovereign of gold from her in total.

There are also allegations that there was a delay in Sameer's arrest as the accused was using his political influence to divert the investigation.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Kovalam MLA M Vincent, who was arrested in a sexual harassment case, submitted a fresh bail plea in Thiruvananthapuram district sessions court this week.

Vincent's initial bail plea was rejected earlier this month. He arrested on July 22 on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman, who alleged that the MLA sexually abused her on two occasions last year.
