The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has expelled actor Dileep from the organisation a day after he was arrested by the Kerala police in connection with the actress attack case.
The decision was taken after a meeting held at Mammootty's residence in Kochi on Tuesday afternoon. Sources state that Mammootty, Mohanlal and young actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Asif Ali and Remya Nambeesan were very vocal in the meeting and stood firm in their demand to oust Dileep.
Mammootty, Mohanlal and Prithviraj appeared before journalists waiting outside the house after a press release on the decision reached at the meeting was handed over to media organisations.
Here's what will happen if Dileep is found guilty
"AMMA stands for the welfare of it members. Dileep has been expelled from the organisation, and none of us will take his side. The actress has our full support. We wish to make it clear that AMMA was never silent on the matter. We were waiting for the police to find a breakthrough in the case before commenting on the incident," Mammootty told mediapersons after the meeting.
AMMA also apologised for the behaviour of some of its members during a press conference after its general body meeting in Kochi on June 29. Some of the actors, including MLA Ganesh Kumar and MLA Mukesh, had attacked the media at the presser, while extending their full support to Dileep.
"We apologise and express our regret over what happened at the press conference after the general body" Mammootty added.

Dileep's primary membership in AMMA has now been annulled. The actor was functioning as the treasurer of the organisation. The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Film Producers Association had also ousted Dileep earlier on Tuesday.
The actor has been accused of conspiracy in the sensational actress attack case. Dileep allegedly gave a quotation of Rs 1.5 crore to Pulsar Suni, the prime accused, to harass the actress and shoot visuals of the attack.
