Kerala: Woman loses nine fingers after liposuction, alleges medical negligence

Synopsis

Neethu lost nine fingers after a liposuction surgery. She alleges severe negligence from the clinic.

Thiruvananthapuram: MS Neethu, a former IT professional, has come forward with a harrowing account of her experience following a liposuction procedure that went catastrophically wrong. Neethu lost nine fingers and several toes due to what she alleges was severe negligence on the part of the clinic authorities.

Neethu underwent liposuction surgery at Kazhakkoottam Cosmetic Hospital on February 22. The following day, she began to experience extreme fatigue and weakness after returning home. Despite reaching out to the hospital with her concerns, she says they dismissed her symptoms as routine post-operative effects.

Negligence and aftermath

Speaking to Asianet News, Neethu accused the clinic of gross medical negligence. She claims that despite the severity of her condition, the hospital failed to act in time. As a result, complications escalated, leading to the loss of nine fingers. She also suffered the loss of several toes, rendering her unable to work or manage basic daily activities.

Mounting expenses and legal action

Neethu has reportedly spent around ₹30 lakh on medical treatment since the incident. She expressed concern that the clinic continues to operate despite its history.

Following Neethu's complaint, Kazhakkoottam police have registered a case against the doctor responsible for the procedure. The investigation is currently underway. Authorities have revealed that the clinic’s registration had previously been revoked for operating in violation of its license.
