4:51 pm: Lok Sabha Elections 2024: CPI confirms candidate on 4 key Kerala seats

The list of Communist Party of India (CPI) candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was declared on Monday (Feb 26). CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam announced the candidates for all four seats in Kerala. The CPI state council has decided to field Pannyan Raveendran in Thiruvananthapuram, CA Arun Kumar in Mavelikkara, former minister V S Sunil Kumar in Thrissur and Annie Raja in Wayanad.

The Alappuzha Additional District and Sessions Court dismissed a petition filed on February 26 by the accused in the murder case of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader K.S. Shan in Kerala. The accused had sought the "return" of the chargesheet submitted by the Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) against them.


3:35 PM: CPI former branch secretary sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment in POCSO case

A former CPI branch secretary has been sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment for sexually abusing four minor girls in Thiruvananthapuram. Shinu( 41), a native of Udayankulangara, was punished. The Neyyantikara POCSO court granted rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000


2:53 pm: Man kills 71-year-old mother in Kayamkulam

A man was arrested for killing his mother by beating her to death in Kayamkulam. The deceased was identified as Shanthamma. The Kayamkulam police took the accused, Bhramadevan, into custody.
 


2:14 pm: 12-year-old boy's hand gets trapped in coconut-cracking machine in Malappuram

The hand of a 12-year-old boy got stuck in a coconut-cracking machine in Malappuram. The fire brigade has rescued Abdul Nafih(12), whose hand got stuck in a coconut-crushing machine at Cavanur Flour Mill. The child was admitted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna. The incident took place at a mill in Malappuram. He got his hand stuck while pushing the coconut into the machine. 


1:30 pm: Drunk brothers booked for thrashing policemen and hospital staff in Haripad

Twin brothers who were drunk and reportedly soldiers assaulted police and hospital staff at Haripad Taluk Hospital on Sunday evening. Ananthan and Jayanthan, natives of Haripad's Chingoli unleashed violence last night. The duo met with an accident when the car they were travelling in hit the divider at the Nangiarkulangara junction. Haripad police reached the spot and took them to Haripad Taluk Hospital. Soon, both of them turned violent during the medical check-up in the hospital.
 


12:14 pm: Man sets wife ablaze over suspicion of extra-marital affair in Varkala; arrested

A husband tried to kill his wife by pouring kerosene while she was sleeping in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram. Ashokan tried to kill Leela (45), a native of Varkala. The incident happened around 1:30 am today. Leela who suffered 70 percent burns, remains in critical condition in the hospital.

Ashokan, who had suffered a stroke a year ago, found himself physically weakened despite treatment. Unable to work due to paralysis in one leg, he relied on his wife Leela, who went out to work to support the family. However, suspicion and fear plagued Ashokan, leading him to confess to the police that he killed his wife out of these emotions, fearing she might leave him.


11:30 am:  3 youths arrested over sexual assault of minor girl for one year in Idukki

Three youths were arrested for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in Idukki. The accused were identified as Ramkumar, Vignesh, and Jaison. The police informed that one more suspect, a native of Tamil Nadu, is about to be arrested. 


11:07 am: PM Modi to attend last day of BJP's Kerala Padayatra in Thiruvananthapuram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday (Feb 27), marking his third visit to the state in two months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers are set to give a grand welcome to the Prime Minister tomorrow morning. He will be inaugurating the BJP's Padayatra's concluding session. The BJP state leadership said that all preparations have been completed to make PM Modi's first visit to Thiruvananthapuram this year a historic event. BJP state president K Surendran said that PM Modi will inaugurate the concluding session of the Kerala Padayatra at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram at 10 am. Flex boards and large cutouts of PM Modi have been erected in different parts of the city to welcome him. 


10:30 am: IMD issues yellow alert in 8 districts as temperature rises in the state

 The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in 8 districts as temperatures rise in the state. A yellow alert has been declared in 8 districts, including Palakkad, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts. The IMD stated that the maximum temperature in Palakkad district will rise to 38 degrees Celsius, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, and Kannur districts will rise to 37 degrees Celsius; and Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts will rise to 36 degrees Celsius. The department issued a warning stating that hot and humid weather conditions are expected today in these districts, excluding hilly areas. 


9:55 am: High Court to consider petition filed by KSIDC regarding SFIO investigation in monthly-controversy case

The High Court will today again consider the petition filed by KSIDC regarding the investigation of the SFIO in the monthly controversy case. The petitioners complained that the SFIO was inspecting without providing a copy of the order for investigation. The High Court had earlier rejected the request to stay the SFIO investigation.


9:25 am: Police register case against two teachers in connection with suicide of 7-class student in Alappuzha

The police have registered a case against two teachers in the suicide of a class 7 student in Kattur, Alappuzha. The Mannancheri police have registered a case against the school's physical education teachers, Christudas and Ramya. According to the police, other departments will also be charged based on the progress of the investigation.


8:44 am: Four cops injured after clash with goons in Kollam; 4 arrested

 In an appalling incident, a team of goons reportedly attacked four cops on Sunday (Feb 25) at Koonamvila junction near Poojapura temple at around 7 pm. Four cops suffered injuries during the process of apprehending suspects and they were admitted to Kundara Taluk Hospital. The policemen were trying to intervene in a fight involving four members of the goon gang When the police tried to arrest the suspects and transport them in a police jeep, they were attacked.


8:24 am: Young man arrested for raping woman in Kollam

A young man was arrested for raping a woman in Kollam. Shyam Sundar, a native of Karunagapally, was arrested by the East Police. The accused was directly acquainted with the victim of the rape.


8:15 am: Kerala Finance Minister donates Rs 2.3 Lakh from Nava Kerala Sadas sponsorship to charitable organizations

Finance Minister KN Balagopal has donated the remaining Rs 2,30,000 from the sponsorship amount for the Nava Kerala Sadas to charitable organizations. The money was distributed equally to the representatives of Gandhi Bhavan and Snehatheeram in Pathanapuram during the foundation laying ceremony of Pathanapuram Taluk Hospital. Meanwhile, CM Pinarayi Vijayan had started the Mukhamukham program after the Nava Kerala Sadas.


7:55 am: Young man found dead inside his home in Alappuzha

A young man was found dead inside his home in Harippad, Alappuzha. Aneesh, a native of North Harippad died. The Kanakakunnu police have registered a case of unnatural death
