Watch: Live heart travels 6 kilometres in 6 minutes in Bengaluru

Bangalore traffic police opened a green corridor and helped hospital authorities deliver a live heart in six minutes. As a result of this, a heart was moved from Columbia Asia Hospital in Hebbal to MS Ramaiah Hospital. A patient with a chronic heart condition underwent a heart transplant at the cardiac facility.

Bengaluru’s traffic is known for delaying everyone’s plans. But the city’s traffic police’s latest gesture saved a life. On June 7, the police force opened a green corridor for 6 kilometres and helped hospital authorities deliver a live heart within 6 minutes.

The police force tweeted a video of a team of doctors carrying the heart at the Columbia Asia Hospital. The authorities got into the ambulance and took the green corridor which runs from Columbia Asia Hospital-Bellary Road-Kuvempu Circle- New BEL Road and finally, at MS Ramaiah Narayana Heart Centre.

At the cardiac facility, a 59-year-old man with a chronic heart problem received a new lease of life. The man, who hails from Kolar, underwent a heart transplant as he was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart rate drops. The doctors who performed the surgery told reporters that the patient is recovering well and will be discharged within three weeks. 

The patient was asked to undergo a heart transplant six months ago and was waiting since then. He received the organ of 29-year-old Punit, who fell from a tractor and was declared brain dead at Columbia Asia hospital in Hebbal. His parents agreed to donate his organs and according to reports, four people will be benefited from their gesture.
