
The US has declared Mohammad Shafi Armar as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. He is the first Indian to be included in the list.
Mohammad Shafi Armar (27), hailing from Bhatkal, in Karnataka, who deported to Pakistan, along with his brother Sultan Armar, following action against Indian Mujahideen activists, founded his own outfit Ansar Ul Tauheed, showing loyalty to ISIS. Shafi is suspected to recruit youths from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, through his interactions on Social Network platforms.
Yasin Bhatkal, who was arrested at Nepal Border in 2013 had revealed clues about Armar’s connection with ISIS. Following on the lead, the NIA had made a crackdown on ISIS unit in Ratnam District in Madhya Pradesh. It was found that Armar was luring youths to ISIS through his Jund Ul Khalifa E Hind closed internet group.
Shafi Armar’s brother Sultan Armar was killed in a US drone strike in Syria in 2015. Shafi Armar took over after that and became the head of recruit for India. He is said to be an important aid of IS Chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Indian government had approached UN and Us to term Shafi Armar as a global terrorist and in the recent list of global terrorist released by the Us Shafi Armar’s name figures.
