The State will soon have five more botanical gardens, on the lines of Lalbagh, set up at various places to conserve rare plants. The State has a climate suitable for protecting rare plant species. Hence, the Horticultural Department has plans to set up more botanical gardens to grow global rare plants, reports Kannada Prabha.

The State government has already approved the project and developmental works are underway, said Horticulture officials. The Lalbagh model will be followed where 2,120 plant species are preserved. It has been planned to help farmers grow them for profit. The botanical gardens will introduce new varieties of plant species to farmers. Local students will also get an opportunity to study foreign plants from cold regions and deserts. There are plans to convert these gardens into a botanical lab of international standards. The gardens will keep the region beautiful and clean, reports Kannada Prabha. Dr M Jagadish, assistant director of Horticulture said steps have already been taken to set up 5 botanical gardens at 5 places in the State. Depending on the release of grants progress will be made. The places ear marked for the gardens are Kannamangala, Doddasagare, Chikkaballapur, Mysuru and Sirsi.
