State flag for Karnataka? Twitterati nail with frenzied reactions

Synopsis

The Siddaramaiah government forms a panel to officiate the Karnataka flag The flag created by Ma Ramamurthy in 1965 was not the official state flag. But it was used in administration by the government Apart from Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir is the only other state to have its own flag

Twitterati went on rampage with mixed opinions on the Karnataka government's move to legalise the existing yellow and red flag as the official state flag.

Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka is the only state to have its own flag. The yellow and red flag which has been associated with Karnataka and Kanandigas has no legal status, so far. But the government has adopted the flag in its administration.

The flag was first designed and created by Ma Ramamurthy around 1965 to protect the interest of Karnataka and Kannadigas. Since then, the flag is regarded as the official state flag. The flag is even hoisted during the Rajyotsava - Stat Day - celebrations by the government.

In fact, the debate of officiating the flag has been going on since many years. Five years ago, when BJP was in power in the state it had flatly denied the suggestion to officiate the yellow and red flag, claiming by doing so it would go against the unity and integrity of the country. According to The Times of India the committee has been set up following the representations made by Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha president Patil Puttappa and activist Bheemappa Gundappa Gadada from Belagavi.

Here is how twitterati reacted to the state's move on the Karnataka flag
