The United States' move to declare Shafi Armar as the global terrorist has certainly not gone down well with his family. Refsuing to accept this infamy handed over to his brother, Safwan Armar wants him to be tried by the court, first.
"My brothers Sultan Armar and Shafi Armar have been declared as global terrorists. We do not accept this unless, they are tried in the court," Safwan Armar told Kannada Prabha, here. "We were first told that Sultan was killed on the borders of Afghanistan and Shafi in Syria. But now, by declaring Shafi as the global terrorist, what does America wants to prove? There are no proofs to its charges. How can we believe. Let America or India arrest Shafi and bring him to the court. We have trust in our country's judiciary. Unless, he is tried in the court, it is not fair to brand him as terrorist," Safwan told this paper.
Shafi Armar was named the specially designated global terrorist (SGTD) by the US last week. He is said to be chief recruiter of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in India. In fact, Shafi is the second Indian to be declared SGTD after the India's most wanted fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
Earlier reports have suggested that Mohammed Shafi Armar alias Yusuf hailed from Nawayat Colony in Bhatkal, reports Deccan Chronicle. Before he fled to Paksitan, Shafi was schooled in the hardline Wahabi ideology at a seminary in North India. In Pakistan, Shafi is said to have joined hands with Indian Mujahideen (IM). It is said that after the arrest of dreaded terrorirst Yasin Bhatkal in 2013 on Indo-Nepal border, Shafi is said to have left to Afghanistan where his elder brother Abdul Khadir Sultan Armar had already established his base. Although Sultan was declared dead in Syria in March 2015, the family does not have any information on this, it is said.
Shafi is accused of recruiting youths to ISIS from India online and over 50 youngsters are learnt to have joined this movement.
