Rs 2,000 crore loss on first day of lorry strike

The countrywide lorry strike commenced on Monday resulted in loss of Rs 2,000 crore on the first day. In Karnataka, an estimated Rs 150 crore loss has been reported. The All India Motor Vehicles Congress had called for a two-day nationwide strike to protest against the imposition of GST, rise in diesel price, harassment by road traffic officials and other issues, reports Kannada Prabha.

Following the protest, supply of all commodities, except essential goods, have been halted. With 80 per cent supply disrupted, a loss of Rs 2,000 cr has been reported on the first day, said Motor Vehicles Congress’ Balamalkith Singh. There are 93 lakh lorries registered under the organisation.
