
Robbers dug a 15 ft tunnel through sewage next to Balaji Jewelers on Devasandra main road in KR Puram and escaped with goods worth Rs 20 lakhs. Police suspect a professional planned heist.
The heist came to light when the owner of Balaji Jewellers Mohan Lal opened his shop on Thursday morning. Hailing from Rajasthan, Mohan Lal was running the shop on Devasandra Road in KR Puram, since a long time. His shop is usually open from morning 10.30 to 8 pm.
On Wednesday Mohan Lal finished for the day, locked up and left for home. Miscreants dug a tunnel through sewage next to the shop at a distance of 10-15 feet. The robbers entered the shop through the tunnel and took away ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh. In their rush to escape the robbers had dropped some gold and silver items on the way.
Next morning Mohan Lal opened the shop at 9 am and was shocked to see a big hole in the floor and immediately called the police. He claimed that around 600 gm of gold and 35 kg silver items are stolen. A case has been registered at K R Puram Police Station, investigations are on said Southeast DCP D Boralingaiah. He feels the robbers have observed the shop for days and made professional plan.
