Christened as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, Rajinikanth is his mononymous stage name. Having his origin in Karnataka, he was working in the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor before becoming an actor. He was actively taking part in staging plays in Bengaluru even when he was working as the conductor. However, his love for movies took him to Tamil Nadu, and he joined the Madras Film Institute in 1973.

Actor and politician Sarath Kumar too had told that people who come in search of jobs to Tamil Nadu and settle here should not aim to be in the Tamil politics. Rajini is a Kannadiga, and he came to Tamil Nadu and found a successful career here. He should not venture into the Tamil politics.

However, Superstar Rajinikanth’s recent dialogue with his fans hinted at his interest in joining Tamil Nadu politics. Rajini had said during the dialogue that he was 67 years old and had lived in Karnataka for 23 years and in Tamil Nadu for 43 years. “I am a Tamilian,” he had said.

This raked up controversy in Karnataka and Kannadigas were angry on his ‘I am a Tamilian’ dialogue. It can be remembered that even Jayalalithaa was born in Karnataka in a Tamil family. After shifting to Tamil Nadu, she too had told that she was not a Kannadiga but a Tamilian.

Rajinikanth might proclaim that he is a Tamilian, but the fact will remain that he was born and brought up in Karnataka. However, the fact also remains that Jayalalithaa who was born in Karnataka became the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, despite the initial glitches.
