Parking your vehicles outside your home at night are not safe anymore

Synopsis

Thieves target parked motorcycles, cars and autos outside homes. In West Division Police limits, 323  parked motorcycle were stolen from residential areas in last six months. Multiple motorcycles and car accessories stealing gangs are operating in various parts of the city.  Police ask vehicle owners to lock and chain the two wheelers at night.

 

The Bengaluru police have come up with a shocking revelation that in last six months 323 two wheelers were stolen by the  thieves who target vehicles parked outside homes in Bengaluru and sell at scrap market.

In the recent incident, Suresh a  resident of Laggere in North Division Police limits had lost his splendour bike as bike thives drove away his vehicle in the midnight from his house compound.

Suresh who work at a private factory inTumkur, finished his second shift and reached home by 2:00 pm on Sunday and parked the bike outside. His sister who woke up at 5:00  to do tulsi pooja had come out and found the bike missing.  In a matter of three hours the thivef had stolen the bike.
"We complained to the police station, and on Monday, the police got a CCTV footage from neighbour's house entrance. In the footage,  a youngster moving suspiciously took out few keys and was found opening bikes parked on the roadside in residential areas. The culprit used duplicate keys and stole my bike," he said.

Arun Kuribarahalli, Suresh's neighbour, would have become another victim had the culprit managed to open the lock with duplicate keys. "The culprit sporting a tea shirt looks very young. He first tried opening my bike, but the lock did not open. He tried with few more bikes, but Suresh was unlucky. This is not the first time, incidents like this have happened in the past, and it is only increasing,"  he said.
Deputy Commissioner Of Police, West, Anuchet revealed that in last six months in his jurisdiction 323 bikes were stolen and most of it was at night time when the owners were in a deep sleep.

"There are habitual offenders. Crimes like this not done by any single group and few persons. There are multiple groups. The team first will do a recce on the spot, and during the night they will take bike parked on the side of house compound. We have arrested many and recovered 168 bikes, but in few days time, the criminals will come out on bail. The public should be careful, and they should lock their bike chain the wheels. Sometimes people forget to close and leave the keys in the motorcycle, all this are simple things which can avoid such situation," he said.

Another senior officer said, most of the stolen bikes land up in the scrap market in Mysuru Road and Shivajinagar. The offenders dismantle the bike and sell it to scrap merchants for throw away price.
