G Parameshwara submitted his resignation as the Home Minister on Thursday. He has been retained as the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and has been asked to concentrate on facing the 2018 elections.

My aim is to make Congress win the 2018 elections, and I will put my full strength in making this happen, said Parameshwara, after submitting his resignation. As soon as Chief Minister arrived at the city from Mysuru, Parameshwara visited the CM at his residence –Krishna- and submitted the resignation letter.

There were other contenders for the post of KPCC president including DK Shivakumar and SR Patil. But the Congress High Command decided to continue Parameshwara as the president. Thus Parameshwara has also clarified, “We will win elections in the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. No one in the party including DK Shivakumar is unhappy about the High Command’s decision,” he said just before submitting the letter.

Parameshwara’s resignation comes just before the starting of the assembly session. The next Assembly Session will start on June 5. If Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sends Parameshwara’s resignation to Governor Vajubhai Vala before Friday night, Parameshwara will have to attend the next session as a former minister.

If the CM delays sending of the letter and it doesn’t reach the Governor by Saturday afternoon, Parameshwara will remain as the Home Minister until June 17.
