
United Bengaluru, formed to reform and save Bengaluru's lakes via the combined effort of several groups and personalities, continues its inspections of the city's lakes. This week, on 03 June 2017, the focus will be on Sunramanyapura, Vasantapura, Gowdenpalya Lakes in the Byramangala Lake series located in Bomanahalli Zone.
In addition to this, Vasantapura Kalyani- which has been subject to encroachment - will be inspected by a group consisting of and urban Experts, members of groups, elected representatives and government officials.
The event will be attended by - Freedom Fighter Shri HS Doreswamy, citizen activist Manju Sainath, Citizens' Action Forum's president NS Mukunda, Nitin Sheshadri- RWA, Koramangala 3rd Block, S Vishwanath of the Rain Water Club, Sridhar Pabbisetty, the CEO of Namma Bengaluru Foundation. Suresh NR, the Convener of United Bengaluru.
Government officials include Bangalore South MLA M Krishnappa, Padmanabnagar Shoba Anjappa, Vasantapura Shoba Gowda, Uttarahalli Shri Hanumanthaiah and other officials.
The drive, like the earlier ones, hopes to assess the extent of deterioration, encroachment and dumping in these lakes. As usual, United Bengaluru also promises to ensure that citizens use the information gained to contact relevant authorities in the government and file complaints on violations.
The movement hopes to ensure citizens use the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Order on dumping into lakes to prevent further damage to the lake ecosystem in the city. According to the NGT order, each violation must be fined Rs five lakh.
