The Ola taxi service has started a new scheme to attract commuters by offering Ola Share Express, which enables commuters to get in and get out at will at any point and pay only for the distance they travel. This will work out cheaper and convenient for them. As Ola Share Express will ply in the same routes as BMTC, there is imminent danger of it eating into the BMTC revenue.

However, Ek Roop Kaur, MD, BMTC has denied any information about such a cab service and assured she would look into the prospect of losing out commuters in case such a cab service is provided along the BMTC routes.

Ola cabs have a minimum fixed fare and after the minimum distance over the fare is charged per KM basis. The Share Service Express will enable the commuters to pay only for the distance travelled, which works out affordable. The share express also gives an option to get in and get out anywhere. The cab can be booked on phone but the commuter has to take the cab on road as it will not pick up passengers from home. As the number of commuters per cab is going to be only four, it is convenient and quick and the possibility of more commuters opting for it is more.

However, it is learnt that, Ola has offered this service without permit. Also, with the Metro coming into operation full swing, how many will opt for Share Express is a wait and watch situation at the moment.
