The Cubbon Park will be closed for vehicular traffic on second Saturday of all months, along with weekends and public holidays, it has been finalised. The Police Commissioner Praveen Sood has withdrawn his earlier order of allowing traffic inside Cubbon Park on second Saturdays, reported Kannada Prabha.

As the traffic is very dense around Cubbon Park the Police Commissioner had decided to allow traffic inside the park on second Saturdays and issued a notice to that effect. However, strong protests were raised for the notice by environmental groups. The Cubbon Park Walkers Association had written to the State Chief Secretary requesting him to intervene. Chief Secretary Subhashchandra Kutia called a meeting of Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, and Horticulture Commissioner  Prabhas Chandra Ray and instructed the Police Commissioner to withdraw the notice.  Hence the Police Commissioner has issued a notice stating that the earlier notice has been withdrawn and traffic ban inside the Cubbon Park on second Saturday will continue.

It can be recalled that Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar had issued orders banning traffic inside Cubbon Park on all weekends and public holidays. Praveen Sood’s notice was in violation of the minister’s orders, said the legal experts.
