Modi government to launch Highway Dhamaka with a Rs 7 lakh crore development project

The Central Government has approved a massive highway development project at an estimate of Rs 6.92 lakh crores. Project envisages to develop a total of 83000 km to be completed within 5 years, said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. The massive project is also providing great employment opportunities to the tune of 14.2 lakh man-hours. The Bharatha Mala project has been planned to facilitate the Sagaramala project that connects ports. Karnataka will greatly benefit by the Bharatha Mala project as the Bengaluru-Mangaluru High way will be developed under the economic corridor.

The Central Government has approved a massive highway development project at an estimate of Rs 6.92 lakh crores to develop a total of 83000 km to be completed within 5 years.  At the Union Cabinet meeting presided by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi the project was approved said Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other senior officials at a press meet, reported Kannada Prabha.

The project was described with a power point presentation. The massive project is also providing great employment opportunities to the tune of 14.2 lakh man-hours, they said.

Under the highway project Bharathamala project will develop 34,800 km at a cost of Rs 5.35 lakh crore. The Bharathamala project aims at connecting borders, ports and major locations with each other. The project will be completed by 2022. 

Under this the economic corridor of 9000 km, interior corridor and feeder routes of 6000 km and national corridor of 5000 km, border and international connections of 2000 km, coastal and port connecting 2000 km, Golden Fields Express High Ways of 800 km and rest of High Ways of 10,000 km developments are included. The Bharatha Mala project has been planned to facilitate the Sagaramala project that connects ports. The border roads and north eastern roads will connect each other.

Apart from Bharatha Mala other highway development projects will construct 48,000 km. Northeast and regions where Maoists problems are prominent will also be well connected. Under the economic corridor 44 projects are identified.

Karnataka will greatly benefit by the Bharatha Mala project. The Bengaluru-Mangaluru High way will be developed under the economic corridor. Nava Mangaluru and Karawara ports will be connected with new highways. Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi coastal regions are also coming under Bharatha Mala project.
