Man carries mother with head injuries for 45 minutes: Police, public mute spectators

Synopsis

An 85 year old woman hit by a speeding bike while crossing road, severely bleeding faints. No sign of ambulance even after 45 minutes. Police escort and people become mute spectators. After much pleading, escort police reluctantly take her to hospital.

An 85 year old woman was hit by a speeding Pulsar bike when she was crossing the road and rendered unconscious with bleeding head injury. No one offers help for 45 minutes, including a police escort.

Siddamma Mandeval (85) had come to visit her daughter who has a small hotel near Udanoor Cross, on Ring Road, Kalburgi. As she was crossing the road, a speeding Pulsar bike hit her and dragged her for about 4 meters. Her head was hit and she started bleeding profusely. Her son, daughter and daughters in law came rushing to the spot.  Her son Mahanthappa immediately called 108 and the driver received the call and confirmed he is coming.  However even after 45 minutes the ambulance did not come.  Mahantappa picked up his unconscious bleeding mother and ran for half a furlong to see if he could get any transport. All autos and cars that were passing by did not help him.

A police escort car was parked right there at the spot but they were mute spectators to Maanthappa’s ordeal.  They showed utter indifference to the incident.

Finally some of the people and woman’s family pleaded with the escort staff to take her to the hospital and very reluctantly they agreed said eyewitnesses to Kannada Prabha.

Siddamma Mandevala is admitted to district hospital ICU unit but she has not regained conscience. Had she been brought immediately she could have responded better to treatment say doctors.

The police have arrested the bike rider, reports Kannada Prabha.
