Badami was a constituency that Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah wanted to choose as the second seat to contest from; the first being Chamundeshwari. Badami is in North Karnataka and is heavily populated by Lingayats and Kurubas. Post the Lingayat card, Siddaramaiah was contemplating having Badami as his second seat.
