Day by day, rumours of naxals being unhappy with slain journalist Gauri Lankesh are gaining strength. Close on the heels of naxals opposing the journalist's efforts to rehabilitate them to the society - at a secret meeting in a forest near Kerala - yet another report is doing the rounds. If reports to be believed a former naxalite had reportedly felt that Gauri cheated her with false promises.
Kanyakumari (30) alias Suvarna had surrendered before Chikmagaluru deputy commissioner, along with her husband Shivu alias Gnanadeva (31) and fellow naxalite Chennamma (32) in June, this year. Gauri Lankesh had played a pivotal role in bringing them back to the society along with freedom fighter HS Doreswamy and advocate AK Subbaiah. It was reported that Gauri Lankesh along with panel members had promised Kanyakumari of financial help - along with the naxal rehabilitation package - to treat her son, who had a medical issue.
Kanyakumari hails from Jarimane in Mudigere taluk of Chikmagaluru district. She reportedly faces nearly 33 cases of possession of illegal firearms, dacoity, murder besides allegiance with naxalism. Not just that she was an active member of the Communist Party of India (M) since 2003 and faces nearly 15 cases in Chikmagaluru 17 in Udupi and another case in Shivamogga.
Kanyakumari is married to Shivu. Although Shivu is not a naxal, he supported naxalism. Shivu is a resident of Bannerghatta in Bengaluru. The couple has a son.
After some of their fellow extremists joined the mainstream, the trio decided to sever their links with naxals and went underground for a couple of years before making up their mind to surrender before the police. However, Kanyakumari has been remanded in judicial custody while Chinnamma and Shivu have been released as no cases were filed against them.
But Kanyakumari reportedly did not receive any help - as promised - for her son's treatment by the government. This had deeply disturbed her, reports Suvarna News. A few days ago, she had reportedly expressed her anger with the investigating officials saying that "God will take care of Gauri Lankesh for cheating me."
Being tipped off about it, the SIT officials -investigating on Gauri Lankesh murder - grilled Kanyakumari, recently. But she reportedly said that those statements were made when she was emotionally down. She also denied any naxal connection over Gauri's murder, reports Suvarna News.
