The State government has set a deadline of December 31 to deputy commissioners for completing the process of Akrama Sakrama regularising construction of unauthorised buildings, reports Kannada Prabha. This move comes in the wake of delay in dispersing the applications regarding regularisation of unauthorised houses built in revenue lands in the rural and urban areas under Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964.

The Revenue Department has instructed all the DCs and regional commissioners to complete the process by Dec 31. The government has already received many applications regarding regularisation of unauthorised residential houses constructed prior to 2012 in government lands. However, the disbursement of applications has not been efficient. Under Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964 (Section 94 C) around 5, 40,241 applications were received. But only 2, 61,572 applications have been cleared. Hence more than 50 per cent of applications are pending.

The village accountants, revenue inspectors and Panchayat development officers must have a time table with set targets and clear the applications. In urban areas, officers of local organisations must take action. Finally, the tahsildar will inquire into the eligible applications in the presence of villagers and prepare a list and announce, reports Kannada Prabha.
