Another Janasri channel reporter tries to extort businessman in Bengaluru

Synopsis

A reporter working at Kannada news channel Janasri filmed girls at a bar in Koramangala. The reporter, his cameraman and three others fled after the police intervened.

A Janasri TV channel’s reporter, cameraman and three of their associates courted trouble when they went to a bar and restaurant in Koramangala.

On Tuesday April 18, the reporter, identified as Pradeep, consumed alcohol along with his friends. Eyewitnesses claimed that they filmed bar girls and several women and used it to threaten the staff. According to them, the journalists produced their ID cards and said the bar had violated several norms.

A New Indian Express report claimed the journalists demanded Rs 1 crore in exchange for the video. However, they were beaten up by the staff, who later called the owner, Muniraju, to the scene.

The fight was brought to the attention of the Koramangala police after Pradeep took the staff and the owner to the police station. However, they allegedly fled soon after reaching the scene.

A case has been booked against Pradeep and his associates and the police is on the lookout for them.

This news comes just four days after Lakshmiprasad Vajapai, CEO of Janasri channel was arrested on charges of extortion. According to the police, Vajpai contacted several businessmen in Bengaluru and threatened to air negative news about them.

The police added that Vajpai received Rs 10 crores in extortion in 2017 and a case was filed against him at Commercial Street police station.
