Kumaraswamy ‘shootout’ order: human rights activist files complaint

Synopsis

Human rights activists from Bengaluru filed a complaint against Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy for his controversial statement of asking an officer to shoot those involved in the JD(S) leader murder three days ago in Maddur.  T Narasimha Murthy a human rights activist says Karnataka should not become like UP where law and order is at stake.

Three days after his controversial directive to an officer to shoot and kill those involved in Prakash, a JD(S) leader's murder,  a human rights activist filed a complaint against CM Kumaraswamy.

Activist T Narasimha Murthy says, “Being the chief minister, Kumaraswamy should be aware of various stages of the murder case. A case involves, arrest, probe, filing of the charge sheet, court summons, submission of evidence and the verdict, after which a person is either convicted or deemed innocent and is free. How can a chief minister blatantly order a shootout?"

He further stated that he has submitted a complaint to Karnataka State Human Rights Commission and will be following the case closely to ensure that Karnataka does not become like UP where, in the name of cow vigilantism, people are lynched. "In UP the administration has remained mum over incidents of gross violation  of human rights. Here in Karnataka, a chief minister orders a shootout, this is very sad," he added.
