Synopsis

Kumaraswamy takes oath as the 25th CM of Karnataka, veteran Congress leader G Parameshwara as the Deputy Chief Minister. The floor test will be conducted on May 25. Here are the details of the swearing-in ceremony.

Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of secrecy to JD(S) State President HD Kumaraswamy, who was sworn in as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka. Kumaraswamy took oath in the name of God and Kannada people (people of Karnataka).

On the occasion, veteran Congress leader G Parameshwara too took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Apart from the family of Deve Gowda, which included his wife Chennamma, HD Kumaraswamy's wife Anitha and son Nikhil, HD Revanna and his family, the leaders of the Third Front including BSP Chief Mayawati, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi and former chief Sonia Gandhi, SP leader Akhhilesh Yadav, CPM's Sitaram Yechuri and others were also present.

Congress and JD(S) leaders were seen congratulating the new CM and Deputy CM at the venue.

Earlier, when it had started raining heavily, the venue was said to be shifted to the Banquet Hall inside the Vidhana Soudha, which could accommodate just 500 people. This had disappointed thousands of supporters who had gathered to witness the oath-taking ceremony.

However, as the rain subsided, Kumaraswamy took oath on the stairs of Vidhana Soudha as his supporters witnessed  the grand event.

He will have to prove the majority on May 25. With lobbying and fighting for portfolio in the picture, the real challenge will start now and it will be interesting to see how the JD(S) and Congress alliance will sort out the differences.

Meanwhile, six-time MLA from Congress, Ramesh Kumar has been unanimously selected as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
