Contradictory to the earlier reports that the killers of Gauri Lankesh followed her from her office in Basavanagudi to her home in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, it has now come to light that the attackers were, in fact, waiting for her to reach home.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the attackers had waited for her to come home at the Ideal Homes Layout residence at Rajarajeshwarinagar before pumping bullets into her on September 5.

From the CCTV footage, the SIT has come to understand that the suspected shooters had reportedly made three rounds of Gauri Lankesh's home on September 5. Besides, it has been captured on the CCTV - installed at Gauri Lankesh's home - that the suspected shooter reportedly passing in front of the home around 7.15 pm. This makes it clear that he may not have followed Gauri Lankesh from her office. For, it would have been impossible for him to have followed Gauri from her office, if he was there at her residence 45 minutes before her arrival, reports The Indian Express.

It is also reported that the SIT officials are also exploring the angle if the two suspects had any prior information about her arrival that could have helped them in planning the attack.

The preliminary forensic reports have said that the 7.65 mm country-made weapon was used to kill Gauri Lankesh and the same weapon was also used in the killing of scholar MM Kalaburagi and rationalist Govind Pansare. The SIT team has been trying to establish the source of the gun, which is reportedly found on the Karnataka-Maharashtra borders.

It has been 13 days since Gauri Lankesh was killed at her residence on September 5 and the Special investigation Team (SIT) is exploring all angles to crack the case. But so far, there has been no lead in the case.
