For Karnataka government, dharma is more important than deadly dengue

Bengaluru tops the Dengue list with 1,900 cases so far this year and with monsoons, the cases are bound to grow Both Mandya and Mysuru, have high incidences of dengue. Mandya reported 496 cases and two deaths and Mysuru reported 383 cases and one death Opposition has lashed out at the CM for preferring dharma over dengue  

It is the monsoons and the diseases like dengue and Chikungunya who were waiting to rear their heads, have already begun attacks. Both mosquito-borne illnesses, have sent the public running to the hospitals even for a slight cold and body pain. The reason being fear of being diagnosed with Dengue and Chikungunya.

On the other hand, our state government is breaking their heads with Lingayats and religion and how to strategise for the coming elections.Recently CM Siddaramaiah announced that the Lingayat, a dominant caste in Karnataka, should be accorded a separate religious status. Now to garner more support from the community, five cabinet ministers have been asked to tour North Karnataka Districts which has a significant number of lingayats.

Clearly issues like dengue and rise of other such diseases has been put on the backburner by the CM. It is time to tackle dengue which is fast spreading over Karnataka. So far 3,887 and five deaths have been reported. 

Bengaluru City tops with 1,900 cases and with monsoons just setting in, there are chances of cases shooting up further. The scene is no different in Mandya, the neighbouring district to CM's home district Mysuru. Mandya district has reported 496 positive cases and two deaths and the CM's home district comes third with 383 cases and one death.

"There is no cure for this disease and the government needs to intensify the health programme to deal with dengue.  In the coming days, the cases will only increase with monsoons but for Karnataka CM, 'dharma' or religion is more important than dealing with dengue," said, S Prakash, Karnataka BJP Spokesperson.

Going a step ahead in criticising the government, former CM and JDS President, HD Kumaraswamy said, "The government's priority is misplaced. Not only dengue, there are many other issues that need to be given more attention but the government is busy in playing the divide and rule game keeping next year’s election in mind.”
