Farmer writes to Prime Minister Modi, commits suicide

Synopsis

A farmer fed up of farm loan burden has written a letter to the Prime Minister and committed suicide. A letter was found in his shirt pocket addressed to the Prime Minister. He had written to the CM on Dec 5, 2015, requesting to at least waive the interest on his farm loan. He has requested the Prime Minister to investigate into this and get him justice.

A farmer fed up of farm loan burden has written a letter to the Prime Minister and committed suicide at Naganapura village, Mudhol taluk, Bagalakote district, reported Kannada Prabha.

Eerappa Gurappa Angadi (57) a farmer committed suicide by hanging from a tree at his farm. A letter was found in his shirt pocket addressed to the Prime Minister.  It is not known if arrangement has been made to send the letter to the Prime Minister.

The letter says he had written to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on December 5, 2015, requesting to at least waive the interest on his farm loan. He had also written to the DC and the bank manager.  After making him roam around all offices he was told it was not possible to waive interest.  He requested the Prime Minister to investigate into this and get him justice.

Meanwhile, another farmer in Panegaon in Kalaburgi district committed suicide on Sunday.  Revana Siddappa (37) had a farm loan of Rs 6 lakhs. Unable to repay it he committed suicide. With this the total number of farmers committing suicide even after farm loan waiver by the State Government has gone up to 157. Total number of farmers committing suicide is 464 so far.
