Shops selling chocolates, biscuits chips and such other items will no longer be selling cigarette and gutka. The Central government has prepared a proposal that makes it mandatory to sell these in exclusive shops. The main intention is to prevent children and non-users of tobacco from accessing tobacco products at these shops, reports Kannada Prabha.

Also shops that sell tobacco products have to register with local bodies. The Central Health Department has written to all states on Sept 21 to implement the order. The Central government has instructed State governments to institute a system for shops selling tobacco products to register with local civic bodies. The purpose of this registration is for the convenience of checking on the shops said financial advisor to Union Health Ministry Arun Jha. A survey conducted by the Central government had revealed that 10 crore in the country are addicted to tobacco consumption and of the 120 crore population one in every five is addicted to gutka.
