Elders missing from 'elders examination', reporters find only children in Hall

It looks like the Sakshar Bharat Mission introduced to make elderly people literate, has been completely misunderstood. The annual exams for the elderly people were being conducted on Sunday at Yadgir, Ramanagar and Chikkaballapur with not even a single elderly person or senior citizens writing the exam. Instead, school children were found answering the question paper set for the elderly.

When the Kannada Prabha reporter entered a school in Chikkanayakanahalli, to report on the exam, he was shocked to see students of the primary and high school busy writing the papers. As the reporter tried to find the headmaster, he had already left the school, to avoid embarrassment. When the reporter came back to the classroom, even the students writing the exam had vanished.

At a school in Harobande, teachers were seen telling that they had no clue but were distributing question papers to whoever came to attempt the examination, without even checking their hall tickets or names.

At Gurusanagi, 650 elderly persons were scheduled to write the examination. Instead, there were 150 children found writing the exam. The record book stated that 200 elderly people had written the exam. Even in Ramnagar, there are reports of children being made to write the examination.

National Literacy Mission Authority and National Institute of Open Schooling had scheduled an annual examination for those above 18 years. The exam was conducted at 3788 gram panchayat premises in 117 taluks in 20 districts.
