  • BJP state president is facing charges on illegally denotifying Shivarama Karanth Layout
  • The Anti-corruption Bureau had issued summons to the former chief minister
  • If denied bail, former chief minister could be in big trouble

It's a crucial day for BS Yeddyurappa, BJP state president as the High court will hear his pleas seeking to quash the FIRs lodged against him in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Yeddyurappa has also sought for the anticipatory bail. If the high court denies him bail, the former chief minister could be in big trouble.

Yeddyurappa is facing charges of illegally denotifying the Shivarama Karanth Layout reportedly causing Rs 2,000 crore loss to the state exchequer. The complaint said that then chief minister Yeddyurappa passed 20 different orders to illegally denotify 257 acres acquired for Dr Shivarama Karanth Layout in Bengaluru North taluk between 2009 and 2012. While senior advocate DV Nagesh is arguing for the BJP strongman, former advocate general Ravi Verma Kumar is the state prosecutor. ACB is expected to submit over 600 pages of documents to strengthen the case against the BJP leader, it is reported.

It may be recalled here that the ACB had summoned Yeddyurappa for the second time for inquiry on Thursday. But Yeddyurappa failed to respond to the notice. Besides, he had sought ten days time to appear before the ACB stating that he had no supportive documents and also needed time to procure them. Interestingly, on the same day, he moved the high court seeking to quash the FIR and stay on the summons issued by the ACB. Since Friday is a festival day followed by Saturday and Sunday, it will be tough for Yeddyurappa to secure bail in case of an arrest, reports Bangalore Mirror quoting sources.

BJP has been accusing the state government of allegedly misusing the ACB against Yeddyurappa and have termed it as a political vendetta.
