Reacting sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the states that do not support the development will not get a dime from Central government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the prime minister must remember that the Centre gives back the money that it had collected from the States in the form of tax and not from its funds, reports Kannada Prabha.
Speaking to newspersons on Monday, CM said the Central government does not sanction financial assistance from its funds but returns the tax collected from states. Income Tax, property tax, export tax and such other taxes that go directly to Central Government. The same funds are returned to the states and the PM must remember that, he said.
It was reported that PM Modi had made a statement at a function at Gujarat on Sunday, that the Centre will not give a dime to the states that does not support development.
Meanwhile, at at a function to distribute various facilities to beneficiaries in Dharwad, Siddaramaiah strongly criticised Yeddyurappa and Jagadish Shettar for their remarks about the government. Both Yeddyurappa and Shettar claim they are farmers’ sons but the government loan taken during Shettar’s term as CM has been cleared by the Congress government. We helped farmers by waiving farm loan, prioritising irrigation and extending help to farmers in need. "Hence, we are the real sons of farmers," Siddaramaiah said.
