Centre will compensate states’ loss incurred with GST: Piyush Goel

Synopsis

The Central government will compensate the losses incurred by States due to GST GST not a unilateral decision; implemented only after bilateral talks with states State’s cancellation of Entry Tax is laudable; resulting in decrease in diesel petrol prices   Congress governments should not hesitate to benefit from GST

The losses that the states will incur following implementation of GST will be compensated by the Centre, assured Union Power Minister Piyush Goel. He was speaking after inaugurating a programme on ‘GST, an overview’ at Sri Ramana Maharshi Heritage Centre at Sanjaynagar.

The Central government cannot take a unilateral decision with regard to GST, it has been implemented only after holding bilateral talks with all states. The decrease in tax revenue by states following the GST implementation will be compensated by the Centre. Hence, the states need not worry, he said, reports Kannada Prabha.

GST has enabled economic freedom to the country. For the first all political parties have set aside their political differences and supported the Centre’s decision and the people have welcomed it, he said. Karnataka has done good by cancelling the Entry Tax. However, the Congress is hesitant to take the benefits of GST. GST, like demonetization, is a revolutionary step towards progress.  There may be initial glitches and in the event of such lapses they should be removed, thrown into dustbin and not glorified. Any attempts to change the mindset of people conditioned in 70 years takes time and cannot be done overnight, he said.

Hebbal MLA Y A Narayana Swamy, Hebbal Mandal President Ravikumar and Byatarayanapura Mandal president Rajagopal were present.
